If you're in the market for new curtains you have the choice between custom made-to-order curtaining or a ready-made solution. Custom made curtains are a fabulous option that allow for you to select the exact look and finish you desire, however if ready-mades are more in your price range, you'll generally have the option of either tape or eyelet curtains. While both can look gorgeous, your options are limited in how the finished curtain will appear.
Custom French Linen Pleat Curtains
A look that's both inviting (and trending right now in a big way!) is a modernized version of french linen curtains. The look is packed with character whilst maintaining a contemporary feel. It's also generally only something you could achieve with custom made drapes.
However, if you're up for a little extra effort, there are some ways you can mix it up using a taped ready-made to create this look by faking a pleat, using the right curtain accessories.
Hallmarks of this look are linen or linen-look fabric, black curtaining accessories and a pinch pleat.
HERE'S HOW TO CREATE THIS LOOK USING A TAPED READY-MADE
1) Your starting point is a taped linen-look ready made in a neutral colourway. We recommend our Woodstock Linen Taped ready-made as a good starting point to re-create this look. It's affordable and creates the look and feel of linen.
2) You'll need the right accessories. Using detail like a matte black curtain pole with matching loops is a great way to get this right. You will also need matching curtain clips.
3) Instead of rouching the ready-made you can use it flat, by pinching a faux pleat and securing with the clips, which are then attached to the curtain rings, you can create the illusion of a pleat.
4) You can control the width and end finish of the hung curtain by altering the distance between the faux pleats or size of the pleat. Play around with different options until you get the desired end result.
