DECOR TRENDS TO TAKE YOU ALL THE WAY INTO 2020!

Guest User

It’s only May and already we’re looking towards 2020! Our big brother Bru, a premier fabric design company responsible for many of our beautiful fabric designs, compiled its 2019/2020 Trend Report and we’re totally excited about what’s next. Here are some of the highlights to provide inspiration and ensure you’re the first of your friends to be on trend:

  1. EARTH FACE

Never before has the earth been so close to its tipping point. The time of thinking about positive change has past. The time for action is here. The responsibility lies with each and every one of us... from design to construction, consumption to creation. Colours in this trend range from soft and earthy to mineral-inspired ones. Green-conscious fabrics such as FibreGuard Casual and Leisure are a good way to make your contribution, as they are endorsed by Okeo-Tex. You can also choose natural fabrics such and 100% cotton or linen.

2. TENDERNESS

Falling into vulnerability is a wonderful thing. We have learned that big boys do cry and so do powerful women. We bleed, we ache, we hurt, we laugh, we cry, we embrace and, most importantly, we accept. We are living, coping, loving authentic beings. And we are kind. If this trend appeals, look to gentle colours such as dusty rose pink, duck egg and pale, warm neutrals that remind one of sun-bleached straw.

CRAFT TECHNOLOGY.jpg

3. CRAFT TECHNOLOGY

Reuse, Recycle, Recreate. How is our technology today forcing us to think about ways to change consumption to creation? We are continuously challenging ourselves in the pursuit of a better, cleaner, safer world. To echo this sentiment, look to foliar motifs in Meeko as well as mineral colours of other collections.

AFRICANISM.jpg

4. AFRICANISM

The birth place of humankind has inspired the world. Our open plains, diverse cultures, rich mineral resources, vast biodiversity and humility is cause for pause. The world is looking to Africa as a new source of inspiration. “There is no passion to be found playing small in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living” — Nelson Mandela. Africa-inspired prints and bold primaries express African exuberance.

PAST PERFECT.jpg

5. PAST PERFECT

To go forward, sometimes you need to go back. How would we ever learn if it weren’t for the lessons of the past? Our continued growth and development has often been dependent on the mistakes we have made before. There is a certain nostalgia to it, something we embrace with forgiveness because we learned an invaluable lesson. We have seen many trends springing from the past/present dichotomy, and the move from minimalism (recession) to maximalism (luxury/comfort) is one such trend. So now you have permission to shamelessly luxuriate in tactile fabrics, such as velvets, textured jacquards and full-bodied satins.

FANTASY REFLECTION

Escapism. Dream it, believe it, become it. Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR). Go anywhere, everywhere. Not this life, that life. Life is but a dream. It’s a cruel, crazy, yet beautiful world, often without an escape button. But wait, I can “step off”. I can go somewhere new, get away in an instant. The world of AR is but a mindset away. Dream it. This idea of a shimmering dreamworld at our fingertips is expressed in shimmery fabrics and ethereal colourways.
