10 VERY GOOD REASONS TO USE VELVET IN YOUR NEXT DECOR PROJECT

Lauren Graham

In case you hadn't noticed, velvet is having a BIG moment in home decor right now. In stark contrast to linen and other natural tones and textures, velvet adds instant glamour and a certain "cosiness", even in the smallest doses. Forget everything you've come to know about velvet, and trust us on this one, it's no longer a fabric synonymous with Victorian living rooms and Gothic style bedrooms.

With its abundance of texture and tone, we're delighted to welcome velvet into 2016. Here are 10 inspired looks that have us convinced that velvet is a great reason to redecorate, even if it's only a new statement piece.

In case these 10 looks weren't enough to inspire you, we've included some "get the look" options from new collection Velour - because there's simply nothing worse than falling in love with a look you can't actually re-create at home.

If you've only got one piece to recover, go big, go bold and make a statement with citrus tones that pop against a neutral white base.

As classic as green velvet may be, you can drag it screaming into 2016 with the right styling and metallic gold accents.

A perfect mix of old and new in this contemporary open plan home with a  pop of teal blue to break up a space.

Modern comfort is this velvet blush armchair set against warm wooden floors and modern art.

Forget the typical tufted headboard, a plain finish is a modern alternative that still screams luxury in dark grey velvet.

Go soft and feminine with a silver toned velvet paired with pretty matte pastels.

Dare to be bold with an orange accent chair! Keep the base neutral for a chic finish - less can still be more.

Warm up your boudoir with a glamourous ottoman in a  beautiful mink tone.

Even an earthy green oozes sumptuous comfort when it's velvet.

Bring a classic velvet colour into modernity by pairing with white and accessorising with textures and modern pieces.
