7 IDEAS FOR A SMALL HOME OFFICE

Lauren Graham

Always wanted a stylish home office but didn't think you had the space? You might reconsider after discovering these seven great ideas for a small but stylish home office. Even if you don’t intend to run a business from your desk, it’s always nice to have a dedicated space for your household admin. Take a look at these 7 great ideas:

1. AN OFFICE WITH A VIEW MAKES A WORLD OF DIFFERENCE

If you don't have much free space, but have a window that is unoccupied, prop a small desk up against it. It’ll give you the illusion of more space when sitting at your desk, while letting you work in natural light. The bonus of course is working from home, with a view.

2. YOUR OFFICE CAN LIVE IN ANY SPACE, AS LONG AS YOU CAN DEFINE IT

You don’t need a dedicated room to call your office. A blank wall, or bare corner can easily be transformed into your office. The key to getting it right? Use a strong wallpaper to define a section of a room and go all out decorating the space , layering with design elements like edgy art work, shelving, patterns and even a rug to create a defined space.

3. CARVE OUT ROOM FOR YOUR WORKSPACE

Find that area in your home that can be reimagined as an office space - an awkward corner or a completely dead space and transform it into an office nook. Repurpose the built in dressing table in the guest room, or make use of a multi-purpose seating solution that can work as a side table and double as an office with the right shelving.

4. HIDING YOUR CLUTTER THE STYLISH WAY

If additional shelving and cabinetry isn’t an option, use the dead space beneath the desk for storage. Cover it all up with a stylish skirted tablecloth to hide your files and unsightly cables. A table covering adds a soft decorative touch and leaves the space feeling less "officey" and more like a natural extension of a lounge or living area.

5. GET SMART WITH STORAGE

Unlike the office, you want your home working space to be decorative as well as functional. Take a look at these home storage ideas to conceal the clutter and paperwork.

6. A NEW USE FOR BAY WINDOWS

Big, beautiful bay windows often end up being a terrible waste of space. You never quite get round to sipping your tea whilst tucking into a good book in the cosy day bed you’ve created. Get practical, pack the cushions away and you have the perfect place for a desk with a fabulous view.

7. SLIMLINE YOUR WORK SPACE

If you are really short on space think about a slim console desk, mounted shelving, or even a homemade trestle that gives you just enough width to work on, whilst taking up minimal floor space. A slim seating solution is all you need to tackle a home office in a narrow room.
